Illinois Can't pay its Corrections Bills

As of September 8 The Illinois prison system has accumulated over $39 million in overdue bills.

Illinois' Department of Corrections'  Fiscal Year 2012 budget totals $1,167.3 million.  The agency employs approximately 11,600 employees and is responsible for the management of nearly 49,000 adult inmates and supervision of approximately 26,000 parolees. 

"I am fearful at some locations we won't be able to meet the food needs of the population." said Brian Gleckler, IDOC's Chief financial officer wrote in a June letter.  Read the full story at The State Journal-Register
